We recognize Jesus as more than a symbol or savior; we recognize him as our teacher. His presence was rooted in real places with real people, and his authority emerged not from status but from wisdom. He did not instruct from a distance. He walked, sat, and ate among those he taught. His lessons were lived responses to the questions and needs of the moment. He expanded tradition without erasing it. Jesus does not replace. Jesus reimagines and expands, inviting an alternative and often innovative reading of Jewish tradition. His originality challenged assumptions but did not reject the past. In following him, we do not seek to escape history or culture but to deepen our understanding within them. To call him Teacher is to commit ourselves to learning—and changing. Anything less reduces his teaching to comfort rather than transformation.
May we follow the Teacher who reimagines and expands, learning to honor tradition through bold and faithful transformation.
