Facing the shadow is not about fixing or escaping anything. It’s about telling the truth. The more honestly we name our capacities—for both kindness and cruelty—the more whole we become. This work isn’t comfortable. It strips away illusions and demands accountability. We stop pretending that harm is only something others do. We recognize that evil is not out there, but in here, too. Denial creates danger. Awareness opens possibility. As we take responsibility for our actions, we begin to live with greater integrity. There is no need for perfection, only a commitment to honesty. Shadow awareness doesn’t make us better than others. It makes us more human. The key is not in the light. It is in the dark. Go there.

May we have the courage to face our whole selves, and in doing so, live with honesty, responsibility, and integrity.
