In moments of surprise we catch at least a glimpse of the joy to which gratefulness opens the door. — Br. David Steindl-Rast
Select One Spiritual Nugget to Inspire Your Day
Telling the truth to ourselves is the beginning of love. Pretending to be someone else—someone safer, more acceptable—has trained us to forget who we are. We adopted masks so early that we rarely question them. But those masks are not us. They help us avoid what we fear, but they also help us avoid reality. The longer we keep hiding, the more harm we do—to ourselves and others. Becoming honest means noticing our patterns of denial. The closer we get to the light, the more of our shadow we see. Shadow work isn’t about shame; it’s about clarity. When we learn to see our shadow, it loses power. Facing it helps us grow up. Wholeness doesn’t require perfection, only honesty. Our spiritual work starts by refusing to pretend any longer.
May we walk toward the light with courage, knowing it will show us what we most need to see.
